Sidsel was born and grew up in the city of Drammen, after her General Certificating she went through the education to become a teacher. The thought of serving God was always present in her heart. To add to her competence she studied four years at MCCN's Theological Seminary, 1968-1972. During that time she married Knut William Berge, and after completing their studies at Ansgar, they left to serve as pastors in a Norwegian congregation in New Jersey, USA.
They were entering upon the mission task in 1974, and their first journey to Hong Kong was made in 1975. In Hong Kong the church planting/congregational work was just starting, and there were necessity of new missionaries for the work. After more than four years in Hong Kong the family got back to Norway due to sickness. Later on the doors were opened for a post as headmaster at a Pentecostal missionary children's school in Swaziland.
After their return from Hong Kong they mostly lived in the town of Grimstad in the south of Norway. Sidsel taught at a primary School there. They had a great wish to go back to Hong Kong and China, but the arrangements didn't fall into place.
