Ellen worked in Hong Kong 1985-1993; she was Supervisor at CLAK and also worked in the congregations:
Her first outward journey to Hong Kong was made on 1 Oct 1985 - first homeward journey to Norway took place on 18 Jul 1989. After that she stayed in Hong Kong from 18 Sept 1990 until 18 Jul 1993.
Ellen grew up in the north western parts of Norway. After getting her General Certification followed by a household- and cooking class, Folk High School, Nurse Training School and a special education in paediatrics, she went to Ansgar Bible School. She worked as a nurse in the town of Alesund, and also in England for a while.
Then she got the calling to go to Hong Kong as a missionary. She was approved for the task at the MCCN's Annual Conference in the small town of Lyngdal in 1985 and made her journey to Hong Kong that fall. The first two years she spent learning the language, and she did manage to learn Cantonese and the difficult Chinese language.
She became the Supervisor of one of the large kindergartens the Mission Covenant Church was running there, this meaning responsibilities as employment of staff, further plans for running the kindergarten, attending and reporting the work together with the headmaster at the institution. She mastered the tasks very well. Otherwise she was involved in teaching women different subjects, teaching English, and she also got involved in the church-work which at that time was expanding largely in Hong Kong.
Ellen got involved in the life of others, spent time with them and got many friends while staying in Hong Kong. She worked there for two periods, 7 years all together and returned to Norway in 1993. At home she returned to the northwest of Norway and has been working as a nurse there.
